It seems like the best way to mobilize today’s youth is to create a Facebook group. Witness “I forgot my BruinCard… please don’t TASER me,” a Facebook group created in response to Tuesday’s tasering of a UCLA student in Powell library. With a membership over 2,000 strong, these kids are making a definite statement to UCLA Chancellor Abrams!

Ingeniously, Facebook groups were designed to accomodate minority voices. This means that if you’re cool with police brutality, you can go ahead and join “Powell Taze: Taze Him Again!” Those of you who take police aggression a wee bit more seriously should join “Powell Taze: Time to Rise Up!” which bills itself as the legitimate online petition group.

So Berkeley, it’s time for you to weigh in: What should UCLA students be doing to protest the incident at Powell? Are Facebook groups indicative of our generation’s apathy, or just a new way of expessing yourself? Send your thoughts to us at “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org
