On a more serious note, it seems as if a lot of our more ardent fans don’t get what our name means. As a rule of thumb, bloggers should never have to explain themselves, but for the sake of our entire readership (sup), I guess we’ll have to spell things out.

First of all, the name is “The Daily Clog,” not “The Clog.” The name refers to neither footware nor a plumbing malady. Now here comes the mind-blowing part: BLOG stands for WEB LOG, therefore CLOG stands for CAL BLOG. Ohhhhhhh.

It really isn’t any fun to have to explain this stuff guys, so try to keep more on your game, okay? As always, go ahead and bitch to us about us at “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org

Only three days now until that Rumble in the Coliseum. “Yesterday we gave the special teams”:http://clog.dailycal.org/sports/battle-for-the-roses-preview-special-teams advantage to D-jax and the Bears.

Today we look at how that ’SC offense looks against Cal’s defense.

It seems like USuC has always had a double-barreled rushing attack since Pete Carroll’s been there.

For the last two years it’s been Bush & White. This year it’s freshman Emmanuel Moody and senior Chauncey Washington, both of whom are in the top 10 in the conference in rushing yards per game.

But the staple of this year’s Trojans squad is that passing game. And while gunslinger John David Booty is no Matt Leinart (Booty is less inclined to be seen sneaking out of Paris Hilton’s pad), arguably the best receiving combo in the nation suits up for ’SC.

With Dwayne Jarrett finally healthy, it will be mighty tough for a team like the Bears, who have the worst pass defense in the Pac-10, to shut down Jarrett and Steve Smith.

Sure Daymeion Hughes (seen below doin’ what he do) has a Pac-10 leading eight picks, but whoever the other corner is besides Hughes will get exposed.

The Bears’ pass rush will get Booty on his booty a few times during the game, but not enough to slow down the Trojans.

*Advantage: Southern California*

Are you inclined to sneak out of Paris’ pad? Tell us at “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org. Don’t be embarrassed.

Bathroom humor aside, we are having trouble finding blogs not blogging about us.

The Berkeley Experience points out that we exist and gives pictoral representations of clogs if you’re feeling 5 again. You are.

Our love affair with Alex Marlow continues as he posts even more about us and points out that we forgot to mention that he also said:

bq. They seem to be really dedicated and I want to encourage them to keep up the hard work by spreading the word.

Alex questions whether we went overboard on the linkage. Is he trying to take away our only power? Alex, we thought you loved us.

And lastly, a Berkeley comic site, Below the Mean gives us a shoutout and says that he was secretly reading about us too. Wow, I guess we’re really bad at secrets.

We’ve been getting a lot of mail recently, at “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org, so keep it up. We read it all, even if we don’t respond. Because that would take, like, effort.

Psyche! It’s still funny even when it’s online.

In four days, the biggest game in recent Cal football history will occur.
In four days, the Bears will play for the Rose Bowl.
So, in four days, we’ll take a look at how Cal matches up with ‘SC, eventually ending with our Pregame Precog on Saturday morning.

Up First: Special Teams

If Reggie Bush was still wearing No. 5 for the Trojans, ‘SC would definitely take the advantage in this category.

But Bush intelligently chose to go pro a year early, something is old teammate, the Golden Boy, Matt Leinart should have done.

The Trojans do have good numbers on special teams. But the conference leading 90.9 field goal percentage that Mario Danelo holds is as misleading as the Trojan horse. Danelo has only attempted 11 field goals all year.

With that said, ‘SC doesn’t have DeSean Jackson, who is putting up better numbers than Bush ever did on special teams.

Punter Andrew Larson has also made up for the loss of everyone’s favorite Aussie, Davide Lonie and Tom Schneider has been solid all year.

We’ll take D-Jax and his record-breaking four punt returns for touchdowns this year.
*Advantage: Cal*

Don’t like our pick? comment at “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org. But how can you pick against D-Jax?

Alex Marlow, who is a really big fan of traffic to his site, from ours, has posted a treatise on the Clog AND linked us. We’re honored, and self-centered, so here are the compliments for everyone to read:

bq. * They are blogging a lot, which is awesome.
* They are blogging mostly on Cal related stuff, which is awesome.
Keep up the good work, cloggers, and welcome.

So, Alex, this one’s for you. And this one, too. Okay, one more. Enough already!

If anyone else wants to feed our egos, “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org should do the trick.

In this morning’s Daily Cal, ASUC Judicial Council Vice Chair Marisa Cuevas explains why “having just-appointed law student Josh Templet on the Council is a good thing”:http://dailycal.org/sharticle.php?id=22255.

bq. “(Templet) will bring a little bit more legitimacy to our decisions,” she said. “People may feel a little bit easier knowing that someone knows a little about real law. It makes people more comfortable.”

Wait a second, no one on the Judicial Council knew anything about “real” law until this guy got appointed? That actually goes a long way towards explaining at least “some of what happened this summer”:http://dailycal.org/sharticle.php?id=20980.

Now in the neverending ASUC story, Student Action filed “impeachment charges against Judicial Council Chair Sonya Banerjee”:http://dailycal.org/sharticle.php?id=22235 Wednesday.

If this follows the pattern of the “impeachment hearings two years ago for Jessica Unterhalter”:http://dailycal.org/sharticle.php?id=18423 (she was “acquitted by the grace of one vote”:http://dailycal.org/sharticle.php?id=18451), it’s not unlikely that the prosecutor is going to be an ASUC senator. Some people might see the fact that the Senate charges, prosecutes and judges these cases and call it a conflict of interest.

From the Daily Cal:

bq. Among the alleged violations cited in the charge sheet is the failure to provide a written, audio or visual transcript of the campaign violations hearing during which Suken Vakil, the Student Action executive slate’s designated spokesperson, made statements the Judicial Council later deemed perjurous.

Actually, Robert Gregg, the former J-Council Chair, presided over the meeting where Vakil made his allegedly perjurous chalk-lasts-one-day statement. Ergo, Banerjee had nothing to do with neglecting to transcribe the meeting. (”Beetle Beat”:http://beetlebeat.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_beetlebeat_archive.html#116309368456736619 caught this already as well.)

bq. The charge sheet also accuses Banerjee of accepting a case after the filing deadline, mistreating Vakil as a witness, imposing improper punishments and violating defendants’ rights as guaranteed in the ASUC constitution.

Actually, the proof of the horrible, horrendous abuse Vakil suffered at the hands of the domineering Judicial Council can clearly be seen on the already-noted-yet-still-nonexistant transcript of the hearing.

And next week, Student Action realizes it is not part of the quest and returns the ASUC Constitution to the council that upholds it. What do you think happens next in Fantasia? Tell us at “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org.

It is now open season for liberal causes as the Democrats have regained control of the House and Senate and the Cal Patriot Blog (useless link) is out of commission. California Patriot contributor Alex Marlow says it may be back up soon, soon being six or seven weeks.

In the comments, a rebirth of Calstuff is on the way. I guess there is life after death. And even the new kid on the block gets a shoutout. We’re touched.

After last week’s win over UCLA, all “Nate Longshore could say is that he was thinking about Tucson”:http://www.dailycal.org/sharticle.php?id=22150. The Bears weren’t looking passed UofA. Cal wasn’t going to think about ‘SC.

Well. Were they?

The Bears blew a huge chance Saturday. A HUGE CHANCE. One tipped pass and that wide-open No. 2 spot for the National Championship just slammed shut on Cal, “losing to the Wildcats in the desert heat”:http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/recaps/2006/11/11/34901_recap.html, prompting Dan Fouts and the rest of that ABC crew to all announce that “Cal was looking ahead to the Trojans.”

No. 3 Louisville lost Thursday. No. 5 Auburn lost to Georgia. No. 6 Florida barely squeaked by South Carolina. And with No. 3 Texas and No. 7 USC still to play, the Bears could have made a huge statement that they belonged in the BCS title game.

But of course, all of that gets thrown out the window with that subpar performance from Cal. There goes that perfect Pac-10 season. There goes the BCS. And maybe, there goes the Rose Bowl.

The loss was so bad that our friends at “tedfordisgod.com”:http://tedfordisgod.com had enough balls to say that it was the “worst loss in the Tedford-era”:http://tedfordisgod.com/?p=96.

Well, Longshore, Marshawn and the rest of the Bears will finally get their chance to play the Trojans next week. And it will actually mean something.

The passing game better get together. Marshawn better be ready to run with explosiveness. The Cal secondary better be ready to cover Jarrett and Smith. Because if the Bears lose to ‘SC next week in the Coliseum, then Cal will have to settle for a Holiday in San Diego.

Do you really want to spend your winter in San Diego or Pasadena? Comment at “clog@dailycal.org”:mailto:clog@dailycal.org. Or just vent about how bad the Bears looked today.

We were coming into today with this warning: Be weary of the ‘Cats in Tucson.

But that “Rutgers upset Thursday over No. 3 Louisville”:http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/recaps/2006/11/09/34747_recap.html just opened the gates for almost every one-loss team in the country to sneak into the National Championship Game. This includes Marshawn and the boys.

UofA is tough at home, and they have of “history of taking down top 10 teams”:http://uclabruins.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/110505aab.html at Arizona Stadium.

But like Herbstreit said today on Gameday, “Cal’s a machine.”

*The Bears will roll on, but not by as much as we’d like to think. Cal over the ‘Cats 33-17.*
