Ah, publicly sponsored gender alteration. What an interesting topic in a slow news cycle. Berkeley City Councilmembers Daryl Moore and Kriss Worthington are proposing that our town fund sex-change operations for city employees. Somewhere, Bill O’Reilly is in his evil lair, furiously masturbating to that recent bit of news. The Clog is giving 3:1 odds that if the proposal succeeds, the world’s best falafel fluffer will a) devote two Talking Points to railing against the measure, b) somehow grow another pockmark through screaming, or c) collapse while laughing hysterically and fuming simlutaneously. It’s 3:1 on any of those babies, so take your pick.Hell, we can already hear the drive-time punditry wizards yelling phrases like “looney-left,” “secularist,” and maybe even “pussyliberalcrazyist.” That, and we can imagine the smug derision in their voices when they say “Berkeley” or “San Francisco.”Basically, what we’re saying is that an interesting Red State World vs. Berkeley World controversy might be brewing. We’ll keep you posted, obviously.Leading the charge for the sex-changers is Lynn Riordan. Without getting into a pronoun usage mess, let’s just say that Riordan has paid for such an operation in the past and wishes to make it free for others. Lynn told the Oakland Tribune thatIt seems to be a medical condition, not a choice, and many people have tried to be what they are not. I did, for 30 years, and couldn’t do it anymore.Transsexualism looks to be going sort of mainstream recently. Just two few weeks ago, Sportswriter Michael Penner shocked Los Angeles Times readers by revealing his intent to get a sex-change. That Amaechi-level shake-up of a macho cabal makes us wonder if discussions of transsexual stuff will extend beyond our bleeding-heart bubble.Rest assured though, the Clog won’t surprise any of you readers with a gender alteration revelation. That is because we, as an ambiguous amalgam of snide Daily Cal staffers, tend towards gender neutrality. That, and Cloggers won’t be employed by the city any time soon.
