EDIT: While we didn’t mention race in our piece, the loquacious Avinash felt the need to make ethnic cracks regarding the robbery suspects. In his Bears Necessity post, he wrote: bq. Man, black people sure haven’t forgotten how to run. Not sure why they went UPHILL though…Um, wow. So one petty crime gets racialized? Usually we’d just ignore that, like so many other crazy/racist/sexist comments one can find on the net. But when a blogger is attempting to reflect the student life of our school, it’s important not to promote that kind of image, and send those kinds of messages. Just an opinion.

Excuse me, why is their race relevant?

Oh man, I’m not sure if comment 2 is a joke or not, but totally funny either way. If it is serious then it’s relevent because the evidence seems to show a strong correlation between race and committing violent crime. That seems like a pretty important connection to me. Here are some dailycal articles about crime that mentioned race the past few weeks. Most of the time they don’t even put race as the dailycal is over-the-top PC.

The crime alert on UCPD lists the races of suspects to describe, and in the most recent crimes— like three armed or strong-armed robberies on Sunday night— the suspects were described as black. Just saying.

As far as I know, black people tend to be the fastest sprinters in Olympic/world races. Unless you’re trying to say black people are slow.
Racist. Raaacist.

right, but there’s a difference between “black people tend to be the fastest” and “black people sure haven’t forgotten how to run.”
one of them is a racist comment that associates millions of people with one crime. the other is a qualification that, while sort of true, still has nothing to do with what happened last night.

Don’t you folks have Daily Cal offices to occupy? There’s a picture of a young black man getting arrested on the front page.

Do you even know what racism is? Seriously, do you just parade that word around in an attempt to feel morally superior?

Wow, what a shock. The perps are two “young black males”. Just like every other armed robbery on campus. Better not mention that fact, unless you want the PC police to bust your kneecaps in.
