Boalt Hall–officially known as the University of California, Berkeley School of Law–has apparently been suffering from a longtime identity crisis due to the battle between its two names. The bigwigs are now scrambling to resolve it, once and for all.
How? Administrators are telling people to stop calling it “Boalt,” damnit. According to the Oakland Tribune:
Administrators are concerned that potential employers and donors are not aware of the connection between Boalt Hall and the university. They’ve hired a corporate-identity firm, Marshall Strategy Inc., which plans to finish its survey of alumni, students, faculty members and others by January.
So basically, they’re hiring a corporate-identity firm to boost prestige, not educational quality–yet another reason why the Regents are raising professional school fees?
As for the Clog, we strongly object this upcoming name change, if only because it will one day render the O.C. references meaningless.
It remains to be seen whether decades of alumni will accept the move away from the Boalt identity, Goeke said.
“I wouldn’t expect a backlash,” he said. “I just think it’s silly.”
We’re pretty sure Sandy Cohen is pissed.
