We admit–and readers should admit too–that our first reaction upon hearing that a UC Berkeley employee and his wife are being investigated on suspicion of harvesting marijuana and possession of firearms was “maybe it’s that ____ professor!”

Well, scandal doesn’t reach that scale in this story, but it’s still a story for the books.

UCPD used a search warrant on Oct. 31 to seize 42 ounces of marijuana and an unspecified number of rifles from a house rented by the site manager of the Russell Research Station, said UCPD Assistant Chief Mitch Celaya.

Site manager Bradley Peconom, 54, and his wife Anna Peconom, 50, were interviewed by UCPD following the search. Neither has been arrested.

Bradley Peconom has been a university employee for over 10 years.

The site is owned by the College of Natural Resources and is located 10 miles east of Berkeley.

Thus, People’s Park proves itself to be not the only UC-owned property where people are smokin’ J’s.
