Berkeley students must have some sort of sense of frugality–for California residents, our education here is the best possible value for the money we pay.

We were specifically reminded of that yesterday, when those high-tuition-paying Trojans visited our little stadium.

Yet this week has been very hard on our I-save-five-cents-because-I-attempt-to-grow-my-own-vegetables Berkeley sense of thrift.

Most miserable, of course, was the visual symbolic representation of over-priced education ultimately overcoming our public school frugality. Even the Chron’s description of the game is described in economic language: “Turnovers costly in Bears’ loss to Trojans.”

Then, though we knew that Boalt was going to change its name, we just found out that it was going to cost $25,000 to do so. Somehow the law school dean thinks that is money “well-spent.”

And the icing on the cake is that the UC President will propose at a private meeting a big pay raise for chancellors . The Chron describes these raises as “hefty.”

We can only imagine that these pay raises will effect our tuition more negatively than the AC Transit fee cut affected it positively.
