Weary of the same old news of tree sitters and oil spills, the Clog decided to visit random campus department Web sites and list their most interesting announcements here. We already discovered Bearfest on a random visit to the Residence Hall Association homepage, so what exciting things did we find in store for this last stretch of November? Sadly, not many. The good news: The ones we did find involve sweets.

Little did we know that the department of bioengineering seems to have weekly doughnut fests. The next one is happening at 5 p.m. in Stanley Hall, with an encore following the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 26. The bioengineering calendar also boasts a seminar on Tuesday called “Dynamics on the Nanoscale: Time-Domain Ab Initio Studies of Molecule-Semiconductor Interfaces, Quantum Dots and Carbon Nanotubes.” We don’t know what that means, but we hope it includes doughnuts.

Did your soul get rejected from the Haas School of Business? Well, at least you can donate your blood to it. Haas’ Annual Blood Drive takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. Free juice and cookies guaranteed! And if you need more sugar, Kingpin Donuts is only a walk away.

More free food abounds in the department of history, along with a chance to “rethink the past.” A lecture called “Rethinking the Past” by James Vernon and Paula Fass is happening Tuesday at 4 p.m. in 3335 Dwinelle Hall.

During our exhaustive trip through departmental websites, the Clog not only began to crave doughnuts–but also found that some departments haven’t updated their Web sites since last year. Additionally, who knew there was a department for Jewish studies or a Center for Forestry that has strong opinions on forest fires (and a strong lack of doughnut socials)?

Not us.
