Hasbro Does Not Find Scrabulous So Fabulous: Application Might Go

Posted By Dena Fehrenbacher On Jan 13, 2008 @ 9:40 pm In News | Comments Disabled

We Cloggers love Scrabulous [1]. We proclaimed our love [2] for the game long ago.

So the news that our favorite Facebook application might be shut down [3] was not easy to swallow.

Hasbro wants Scrabulous to end because it too closely resembles the company’s board game Scrabble.

(Gee, it kind of does, doesn’t it?)

You would think that Hasbro would play fair–they should have thought of the online version themselves, but they didn’t. You snooze, you loose. And the early bird gets the worm.

But we discovered why Hasbro is being so whiny–the application brings in over $25,000 a month in revenue. Who wouldn’t want a piece of that?

The fight for rights to Scrabulous has descended into the dark, confusing hive of the legal world, and may not come out any time soon. In the meantime, Cloggers will keep our eyes open for a savior for the game.

Currently, there’s not many under the “Save Scrabulous” banner other than a handful of lame facebook groups [4]. Maybe if we got the anagrammer.com [5] people to join our ranks we could form more of a coalition.

Will someone please start a Facebook group to save Scrabulous? [Fortune [3]]
