blancovinkje.pngIn five days, several states will participate in the primary election that could pretty much seal the fates of each presidential hopeful.

California voters will also get a chance to vote on a plethora of propositions–most notably 94, 95, 96, and 97. Try to understand the truth behind this Indian gaming amendment four-pack and you’ll most likely just end up utterly disoriented by the endless, back-to-back propaganda.

Stumped about who and what to vote for? Here are a few tidbits of information that the Clog hopes will spur your decision-making processes, but don’t expect in-depth analysis on each and every ballot item. We’re too cool for that.

Campus political resources.– The campus offers a few resources for the well-researched voter. You can bother an election expert, pay a visit to the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies or attend a lecture on a particular candidate. However, it seems that the only primary candidate covered in lectures this week is Barack Obama. The topics? His blackness and environmental platform. What about the rest of the candidates?

Students know best?– Pick up The Daily Californian this week and next week for election editorials and op-eds. Additionally, the Cal Berkeley Democrats are blogging about the primaries, and the California Patriot has a lot to say–as always.

Blogs know better.
– We find that the LAist has an easily digestible and comprehensive overview of California propositions. It’s a guide made especially for the average, simple-minded voter with a short attention span. We like.

Or … just cop out and vote for the spotlight whores.Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have certainly been enjoying most of the campaign attention. Perhaps it’s for reasons other than their race and gender? OK, we just wanted to post a link to that MADtv video.

In other news, the Berkeley Daily Planet issued a warning to independents with absentee ballots: you might not be able to vote in the presidential primaries. Hurry up and get a special ballot.

Happy voting!

To pick up a non-partisan voter guide to all the candidates and propositions (put out by the League of Women Voters), head to the Cal Berkeley Democrats’ table next to Sather Gate this Tuesday and pick up a FREE copy! While you’re there, you can also look up your polling place.
