Earlier this week we noticed a weird-looking publication lying on our co-op dinner table. It surely looked like a co-op production, complete with a cover illustration featuring trees, giant carrots, hobbit feet, flowers, and lots and lots of dirty-looking, flower-holding people.

The 2008 issue is out now, and an online Wiki copy is available on its site. We’d offer you our own hard copy, but some fellow co-oper decided the pages were a good place to deposit her gum. Perhaps that was a correct assumption.

With an annoying I’m-so-liberal-how-’bout-you attitude, the zine does more to put off than draw in. We certainly have our gripes: “Sex in Three Parts” is not sexy enough, “Questionnaire for Heterosexuals” and “White Privilege Checklist” shame us for not being the subjects of civil rights struggles and then there’s the “Save Memorial Oak Grove!” article. Yes, with an exclamation mark.

All right, so the zine is worth a glance, at least to see what riding a bike and living in co-ops apparently does to an already left-leaning individual. It’s a remarkably good effort for the collective (whoever they are), with an easy voice and a clean, working layout. We can tell it so desperately wants to be your friend.

As for our own preferences, we recommend reading through “Students Movement at Berkeley,” though we’re unsure if we can trust all the facts and numbers purported in the article. And in true college-student fashion, it’s always worth it to read up on “Free Things to Do.”

The Clog always hates on people who talk about politics. Come on… show some love.

“Questionnaire for Heterosexuals” AND a “White Privilege Checklist” in those pages? N, please!

I must have one.
