The Coalition to Free the UC is planning a Free the UC Day on Mar. 19, the date of the next UC Regents meeting. One member came by our residence to pass out flyers and advertise potluck fun, art, music, dance, and oh yeah, an alternative Regents meeting. Party on, Wayne.
On the back of the flyer we picked up, the Coalition has just a few key objectives:
stop war, no nuclear weapons, no fee hikes, democratize the regents, eliminate the SAT, affirmative action, fair wages, stop bp, third world college, free education, justice for bhopal, justice in palestine, cancel ucsc lrdp, ban killer coke, indigenous rights, release the 13,000 native remains, save the oaks, immigrant rights, peace studies, ethnic studies, multicultural center, women’s rights…
Sound familiar? The Coalition lists its proposed policy changes, and while we’re not necessarily knocking their goals, it seems … well … a little much. There are a lot of demands, and we’re not sure what the priority is here.
A plan of action is in order–not just a Christmas list of change–and we’re interested to see if the Coalition will come up with actual solutions instead of generalized, hot air demands at their alternative Regents meeting. The group, though, is open to your suggestions and encourages people to e-mail their thoughts.
