Yesterday Lower Sproul Plaza saw splashes of paint jet through the air and rainbowed hands smear powdered hues. The event brought together all kinds of students eager to celebrate Holi, a Hindu festival of spring and colors.
We followed our friends and got a little dirty ourselves. Below, our pictures from the early afternoon ruckus.
We arrived at 1 p.m., in the middle of the painted hootenannies, after most people were already well-colored and blurring into mauve hangers-on.
The cloud in the right hand corner rose up from a bag of crimson powder. Then, someone with a hose would wet the powder clinging to shirts. Voila! It’s paint.
Toward the end of the two-hour celebration, Lower Sproul ran red with paint and forgotten plastic bags of powder littered the ground.
OK, so here come the pictures of our friends (so unprofessional!):
Beth Boylan and Angela Kan danced in the crowd. We were begged to take pictures.
The group posed after an hour of painted flurry. From left to right: Karly Sherwood, Beth Boylan, Angela Kan, Amit Jain and Kimberly Hargrove.
