What will you do this summer? While we write papers for summer class, fetch coffee at our hip, new internship, or sip liquor by the seashore in Costa Rica–plenty of our peers will rival our fun by having summers of adventure and excitement.

16-year-old Delia Salomon–a sophomore from Berkeley High–is probably somewhere in the San Francisco Bay right now. She’s prepping for her swim across the English Channel, which takes place in August. According to the Chron, a swim across the channel is “a feat so rigorous that more people have reached the summit of Mount Everest than have swum to the shores of France.”

Yeah, we know. Salomon totally makes the rest of our summers look wack. But wait until you see what the “Rickshaw Riders” are up to:

Three UC Berkeley students will drive across India in an event called the Rickshaw Run this June, despite parental disapproval, warnings from the event’s Web site that roads may be “terrible and non-existent” and the knowledge that at least one team has been arrested while competing in a previous race.

Sounds perfect for “The Amazing Race” rejects among us! The Clog wishes Brian Wong, Sonny Sabhlok and Allen Rodriguez a safe journey, one with minimal need for the Pepto-Bismol they plan to toss into their suitcases.

What about us–the unfortunate ones who are stranded at home or in the merciless hands of a $900 Session C class? By now, you are tingling with inspiration, waiting to go on your own little adventure. Well, the Clog has some suggestions for you.

  • Join Absolute Adventures Inc. on their monthly adventure tours of the Bay Area. In June, look forward to a hike in Tilden Park, surf school in Santa Cruz, and City Chase–a scavenger hunt and obstacle course.

But if you’re still itching for a large-scale adventure like Rickshaw Run, check the website of the British company that sponsors it (The Adventurists) to see if they have any hardcore endeavors available for you. Or, you can make like UC Berkeley grad Erwin Cho from “The Amazing Race 10″ and apply for Season 14.

We’ll cheer you on as we slave away at our desks!
