The Northern Californian Special Olympics visited Berkeley this weekend with about 900 athletes. The festivities started in Haas Pavilion, and for the most part, the participants were excited about performing and going for the gold.

This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Special Olympics, first staged by Eunice Kennedy Shriver. The Berkeley campus hosted the regional events, which included aquatics, athletics, tennis and volleyball. Bocce was held at Martinez Waterfront Park.

We hope all the athletes performed their best during the games and, most of all, had fun in Berkeley. More information and pictures can be found at the official Website.
