As many of you may have noticed, it’s about the halfway point between the spring and fall semesters, and with it inevitably comes some rather bipolar Bay Area weather. We thought we would give tips on how to survive one extreme of the spectrum.
First, we should note that there’s an “excessive heat watch” for much of the bay this week—so be extra prudent.
Especially during heat waves, it’s generally a good idea to drink fluids—yeah, yeah, we know it’s common sense, but we also know how easily common sense can suddenly turn uncommon.
In addition to water, a liberal amount of sunscreen will do some good. Don’t settle for the cheap kind, either—an SPF number that’s too low is a waste of money and eventually skin health.
All this, of course, is assuming you plan to go outside—some of us have learned that the sun is the oldest of mankind’s enemies, and is a force to be feared and hated. Well, not necessarily hated, but we also know that staying inside and cool tends to help, too.
In this instance, a Homeric saying is indispensable advice: “Yeah, be cool! Coolie coolie cool! Come on fool, be coolie coolie cool!”
