Peter Hartlaub had a wild ride for the Chron’s Magazine, testing out 10 coasters in one day. If you’ve got the wheels and the stomach for upside-down, fast turns and gravity-defying tracks, take a page from Hartlaub’s book.

Here are the standouts from the feature:

* Giant Dipper, Santa Cruz Boardwalk. A wooden coaster with a nostalgic, blissfully stuck-in-the-past feel.

* Medusa, Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo. Barring that you don’t get a puke car, you’ll get a rush from the drop that goes far and comes fast.

* Flight Deck, Great America in Santa Clara. Hartlaub puts it best:

It’s a smooth but fast ride, with a big first drop followed by several twists and turns that swoop over pools of water.

* Grizzly, Great America. If suckage comes in coaster form, this is it.
