According to CBS, a few tree-sit supporters gathered on Chancellor Birgeneau’s lawn on Sunday and … planted an oak tree. Our first reaction was “Hahaha … WHAT?” What sort of protest tactics are the tree people trying to use this time? The only “rational” explanation we can think of is an attempt to appeal to the chancellor’s emotions—but somehow we don’t think a tiny tree will inspire the same feelings as, say, a puppy in an ad for animal shelters.
Of course arrests were made—six, according to a UC police spokesman. But getting arrested might have been the point all along. It’s hard to think of anything more absurd than planting a tree on the chancellor’s lawn to feed a martyr complex.

I know the Daily Clog just loves an opportunity to ridicule anyone opposing the UC in any fashion.

When I heard about this, and saw the pictures of UC cops with video cameras, staked out in the bushes at least five-strong (but probably more), I first laughed out loud. Then I thought to myself “Don’t they have anything better to do?” They’ve repeatedly answered with a resounding no. They’ve been stationed at the tree-sit in dozens, and now these folks were arrested for “conspiracy” for planting a tree. Haha.

Gee, you ask the question “Don’t they have anything better to do?” without irony?
Look at the fools in those pictures. What would they be doing without the tree-sit? And you really think sitting in a tree is the best way to save Mother Earth?

“And you really think sitting in a tree is the best way to save Mother Earth?”
Never said anything of the sort. My point is that the situation is funny. The cops staked out in the bushes like they’re on some serious mission. The video cameras, the dumb looks on their faces. And the goatees. It’s funny.
I’m not a tree-sitter or a supporter. I just like making fun of UCPD and the Daily Cal in all of their respective worthlessness.
Lighten up dude.

So, did they remove the seedling?
