Remember those oh-so-witty “Cal Sucks” shirts that some Stanfordites wore at various rivalry sports events last year? As it turns out, they might not have been totally … legal.

Stanford’s contract with the CLC stipulates that Stanford merchandise cannot defame any other CLC client without consent from both sides. Since UC-Berkeley also licenses through the CLC, the “Cal Sucks” shirts were deemed a breach of contract.

Whoopsie! Students are also discouraged from making their own “Cal Sucks” shirts, as it could end up in a fine—or worse.

In other news, our own student store is selling a “Top Ten Reasons to Beat Stanford” shirt. The list:

10. Still no Stanfordium.
9. I don’t bleed red, I bleed blue and gold.
8. Our tower is way taller than theirs.
7. Revenge.
6. My ex goes to Stanford.
5. In 2008, cutting trees is what we do.
4. Their name can be scrambled to Snodfart.
3. We can’t let UC Davis have all the fun.
2. Their 1 year loan of the axe is up.
1. Since when has California been a red state.

We gotta admit, we did chuckle a little at No. 5. Does that make us terrible people? Probably.
