A multitude of studies, graphs, charts, numbers and statistics have finally confirmed that some sleep is indeed generally better than no sleep. In fact, this is dishonest—it’s more like a plethora of studies, graphs, etc.
In any case, scientists are closing in on the nature of the great mystery. Not only is sleep responsible for ethereally transporting consciousness past vistas of eternal terror to the lands of Ulthar, past the River Skai, but also for metabolic control and emotional functioning.
So, what’s metabolic control … like if you sleep more you get fatter? Au contraire, lack of consistent and adequate sleep is associated with increased risk for obesity and diabetes. Similarly, people who get five hours of sleep or less are twice as likely to get sick. Whoops!
The sciencey people also stress that medication shouldn’t necessarily be used to fix a sleeping problem. For that, cognitive behavior therapy or Vulcan mind melds are preferred.
Justification for sleeping in class? Well, that’s still in the air. But watching anime in a math lecture has no excuse. Not cool, man. Not cool.
