This week’s sign of the apocalypse is not exactly apocalyptic in and of itself, per se, but its implications could shake the very foundations of science and call into question everything we’ve ever known. Yes, gravity itself may no longer be the force of nature it once was.

Earlier this week, a Manhattan cat slunk out a window to paw its way around the ledge–as cats are prone to do–only to find itself plummeting 26 stories to a balcony far, far below. Miraculously, this story does not end with a cat splat [2]; rather, the kitty in question was found on its feet, and requiring only minor hospitalization.

You may think the feline was merely living up (or down, as the case may have been) to its name, Lucky, but we know differently. This is an indisputable sign that the fundamental laws of physics are slowly but surely losing their grip on the world. Thus, as usual, we deduce that the end is nigh. We mean, come on–The window washers across the street who snapped photos of the incident had to have been cosmically placed. The universe is totally trying to tell us something …
