In a move of bone-chillingly Orwellian proportions, the giant controlling network known as the Univeristy of California considers merging its UC Berkeley campus police force and its UC San Francisco campus police. What this scary conglomeration poses to the average M.I.P evading, illegally daytime campus biking time saving student: not much–don’t hyperventilate over that half full bottle of wine in your purse. In light of impending budget cuts, the merger looks like a decent way to save some cash-money, which UC could certainly use for rainy-day things like, you know, professors.
The merger would basically mean paying one chief instead of two and combining certain overarching operations like training and recruitment. After all, the two police forces do just about the same thing and aren’t all that far away from one another. Hopefully, shaving off these extra expenditures will cushion the $100 million blow coming toward academics.
