Today we logged all the things that were on the sidewalk that were not concrete, and a few things we remember once seeing.
This is how we break it down:
Tire marks, rubber soles, crooked cigarettes,
Broken beer bottles, a Racer 5 sticker, a squirrel with criminal intent,
A green parfait cup with gnarly granola, straw wrappers, autumnal sycamore leaves,
Orange pine-needles, watermarks, a black crow ducking a breeze,
Leaf crumbs, a Pokemon card, screw-cap to a water bottle,
A condom wrapper, sign posts, endless black gumdrops, a pile of gravel,
A blue and dirty white business card to the Faculty Club, a squirrel deceased with one black eye in the shade …
On the stairs: glittering strips of grip, tree bark unbound, rubber bands, the cap of an acorn.
A lock and chain, a forking branch sanded as a bench, a Lego ninja, leaves for the grass to sweep up and munch, leaves shorn
The red and white tag of a U-Lock key, bike tire marks, chairs and tables, crows and squirrels gathering,
sprinkler water, woodchips, peanuts, air vents, sewer plates, the letters: USA ITC.
Spray-painted orange, yellow and red: 6+95 7+25 6+50,
Oak leaves, baby green pine cones, crumbled tissue, arrows pointing at arrows pointing,
ticket stubs, duck tape, a splayed a straw and lid …
We could have wandered longer. Doubtless we would have found more. But the same things kept repeating.
