Apparently the UC Board of Regents is not a fan of the late Notorious B.I.G.—or at least a majority of its members have never heard “Mo Money Mo Problems”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mo_Money_Mo_Problems.
Ignoring Biggie’s wise words of “It’s like the more money we come across / the more problems we see,” the regents today approved a “7-percent fee increase for undergraduate and graduates in addition to a 12-percent bump in professional school fees”:http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/03/14/BAGB4OL5HU13.DTL
We take this to mean that additional funds coming in as a result of the increase will only cause UC trouble. Though in reality UC needs all the money it can get to provide world-class educations and “pay Jeff Tedford’s salary”:http://www.dailycal.org/sharticle.php?id=23822.
This doesn’t change the unfortunate fact that present fees are too much for many students, and this just makes matters worse. Nevertheless, UC—and especially Berkeley—remains a relative bargain.
We hope the regents will also make sure the financial aid system has enough funding to keep the burden off students who can’t afford to pay more.

You might want to know that nearly all of Tedford’s salary comes from private donors.
