Today was the first day of November’s Regents’ meeting, and let us tell you, they’ve got all sorts of fun events planned.

There are some protests even today, but as Berkeleyside shrewdly noted, they were a little sleepy, at least on campus. On the agenda today is the always-stimulating Committee on Grounds and Buildings. Just kidding. That sounds pretty boring. So boring, in fact, that we’re not even going to look up what they’re doing. They could be voting to steamroller all of UC Berkeley’s campus and we’d never know. Yudof, take note.

The first of the big events will take place tomorrow, read more »

disorient

And no, we don’t mean through the copious consumption of alcohol or other substances in which you might be partaking this weekend. You’ve (hopefully) already run across a copy of the Daily Cal Fall Orientation issue, but perhaps you haven’t yet encountered the publication billing itself as its edgier, hipper equivalent, the Cal Disorientation guide.

As ASUC hopefuls get into the full swing of their campaigns, we’ve come to expect at least one thing for certain: Self-promotional videos. Lots of ‘em. Some will be funny (we’re looking at you, SQUELCH!–don’t disappoint), some will be awkward and some will be pretty douchey. But all of them will be–well–enlightening.

Alright, alright, we kid. (Mostly.) But while we’re here, read more »

ASUC-athon 2010: Go time!OMG, guys we’re so excited! Know why? Know why? Guess! Oh man, it’s so exciting. Give up? OK, we’ll tell you. We’ve just received the first tasty morsel of information about this year’s upcoming ASUC elections–the CalSERVE party’s executive slate!

Those of you who are new to the campus may not be familiar with the endless parade of pointlessness associated with Berkeley’s student government elections campaigning, so be forewarned: After spring break, you will be ambushed and it will be unpleasant and confusing. But that’s all we’ll say about that for now.

And back to the matter at hand. Here are the lucky(-ish) winners of whatever mysterious game is in charge of deciding these things: read more »

Late last night, a group of people marched on Bobby B’s University House and ended up scattering garbage, destroying lighting and overturning planters. Eight people ended up being arrested by UCPD after the Birg called the fuzz at 11:14 p.m., and two of those arrested were UC Berkeley students. Wait, just two? According to UCPD, the names and ages of the arrested are as follows (in approximate ascending order of age for your convenience): read more »
