Past and present Cal athletes competing for the United States in Beijing total 14. (And Stanford? 31.) The Chron is banking on basketball star Jason Kidd, softball playa Vicky Galindo and swim pro Natalie Coughlin to bring home the glory if they have the mettle. All three are Bay Area locals and tough Golden Bears.

Cal is also alma mater to many other athletes competing for other countries, from exotic Canada to Slovenia to Brazil to Philippines. Quick, how do you say “Go Bears” in Tagalog?
