For the most part, we like to remember last year fondly. The economy wasn’t quite so far down the pisser, the tree-sitters were over by the stadium, throwing fecal matter at people and generally doing what they did, Code Pink was constantly coming up with new ways to be ridiculous … Life was pretty good and we don’t want to complain.
However, that being said, there was one thing from last year we’d kind of hoped we wouldn’t be reminded of ever again (except for, you know, every single solitary time we step onto campus). That was the sudden appearance of these. read more »

Well, who didn’t see this one coming?
Everyone knows that pictures of faces are blank canvas for mustache amendments and unibrow bridges. Duh.
And the banners? We’ve seen the bulletin boards choked with flyers for various extracurriculars and calls-to-arms. Where else would such a banner be hung … in a tree? Scoff.

When rows of white canopy tent-things crop up around campus, we kind of break into a cold sweat of dread, because those tents usually accompany irritatingly self-promoting, inconveniently crowd-producing events like Cal Day. So–naturally–when we noticed that the structures were up again today, we were forced to painfully extend the eye-roll of anti-conformist elitism that we usually commit when we pass the blight on our fair campus that is the Campaign for Berkeley mural. read more »

What’s this? What’s this? There’s something on the steps of Doe Library! Berkeley apparently demands … a shrubbery! (Ni! Ni!) Oh, and the university also demands some canopies with chandeliers. Because we’re just that awesome. read more »

Earlier today, we were wandering around campus when we inadvertently stumbled upon the Campaign for Berkeley’s kick-off music festival and picnic. Oddly enough, we had no idea it was happening.
The only things that actually tipped us off to the shameless pandering going on were the fact that Chancellor Birgeneau was sitting right there, and a few of those mildly horrible “inspirational” banners greeted us–from ground level. They were totally all up in our grills. read more »
