As the Clog was lingering about the Downtown Berkeley BART station this morning, we noticed something peculiar. Now, regular BART-ers know that there has long been a green fence around one corner of the station, with a poster advertising a soon-to-open Peet’s Coffee on it.

It seems we’ve already established that BART is not always the safest place to be, and that the BART police have, in at least a few instances, been part of that problem.
In the latest instance of questionable behavior, a man was Tased at the Downtown Berkeley BART station after allegedly failing to pay his fare. An officer said he saw the man, a one Jason Johnson, exit without paying the toll. He then pursued Johnson, ordering him to stop and then tasing him in the back when he did not comply. This has raised a few eyebrows within the BART administration and elsewhere. read more »
Those of you who squeeze together point A and point B with a skeleton-horse-of-two-wheels, better known as a bicycle, rejoice! The Downtown Berkeley BART station is about to get a whole lot more accommodating of your wild, wiry contraptions. BART signed a lease last week for an expanded bicycle station near Shattuck and Allston Way that will be open sometime this year. Hey, it beats Shoe Pavilion. read more »
