It’s that time of year again: the holiday where people dress up in ridiculous costumes, hand out free food and stuff themselves. We’re talking about Chipotle Free Burrito Day of course.

When we heard about Chipotle Free Burrito Day more than a month ago, we marked our calendars. That’s more than we can say for other “national” holidays like the Fourth of July or President’s Day. In fact, we kind of think that Chipotle’s burritos, with their sheer girth and infinite combinations of fillings, encapsulate American values more than, say, Columbus or other deceased historical figures. Plus, what could be more American than stealing a foreign word and using it to describe something massive and fatty?

After we contemplated spending the night outside the establishment–you know, just in case they ran out of tortillas at noon or something–we decided it might be slightly more logical to just arrive when it opened. But when we got there and saw a negligible line and *gasp* money being exchanged, we knew something was wrong–horribly wrong.
