Attention to any and all individuals with classic Toms and raw denim jackets:

As you hopefully saw yesterday, we clued you in on a little show happening tonight at The Fox Theater in Oakland. The duo performing is a veritable wet dream in the world of indie music, so we’re definitely bringing a spare pair of American Apparel underwear and gearing up for some amazing music. As we already mentioned, the opening act for tonight’s show is the effervescent and endlessly talented Merrill Garbus, better known as tUnE-yArDs. An act like that is tough to follow, but we’re confident St. Vincent has what it takes. read more »

Hipster and indie kids ahoy! There’s another super awesome and amazing concert on the horizon. As you remember, we last beseeched you to venture out to San Francisco on a Monday night to glimpse the beautiful Danish goddess, Oh Land. And this week we’re doing a double feature! There’s a wonderful and mysterious indie songstress headlining at the Fox Theater in Oakland tomorrow. We’ll save her for later (or you can cheat and Google her and ruin all the fun you big baby), because today we’re focusing on the fabulous opener. With a name that’s harder to spell than it is to say, “tUne-yArDs” is sure to bring the heat at tomorrow’s show.

4095665898_1c1806d25c_bFinancial Aid seminars? Not hipster. Enthusiastic people? Not hipster. Science? Not hipster. Dr. Dog? Not … Wait, Hipster!

We were feeling left out. We, the hipsters, are a big part of the Cal community, and yet on the day devoted to Cal and all of its glory, we were beginning to feel a little under-represented. But, the Cal Day concert is our time to show those incoming freshman that Cal is, and always will be, a hipster haven. Adding to the list of indie bands that have played on the steps of the library on this, the greatest of days, Dr. Dog will be presenting their scrappy, country, Philly feel to the people of the glade tomorrow at 4:00 p.m., for free! They will be following in the footsteps of such cutting edge bands as The Cold War Kids and The Dodos.

Listen up everyone, because this is really important. We know there’s been a lot of turmoil lately with the budget crisis and Rick Santorum’s existence and the ASUC Elections, but we can no longer occupy our minds with such small issues. There is in the world a much more prominent issue and The Daily Clog is going to take the first step in addressing it. So, let’s cut right to the chase: there is a restaurant in Oakland that serves only macaroni and cheese. We know. We’re really excited too. Let’s all take a deep breath and sit down and talk about this. read more »

It’s time to put on our super tight skinny jeans, distressed denim jackets and obscure band t-shirts, because we have a new music artist that we think you’ll like! Her name is Nanna Øland Fabricius, and if that wasn’t already fabulous enough, she became Oh Land at the beginning of her music career.

20120315_200033The cold wind and rain scream slouching beanies, fingerless gloves and most importantly HOODIES! If for some reason you are the one hipster without a hoody, or your old one is so old that it does not even work with your “yeah my clothes are holey who gives a $*%@” look, here is a quick review of the three most popular hoody options.

1. The obvious first choice is the one, the only, the American Apparel hoody. Available in any color under the sun, when we think of a hoody we think of this metro-sexual, overpriced but sooooo necessary zip-up. We dare you to sit at Tully’s overlooking Sproul Plaza and count the number of passing students with this signature fleece. But, now, wait a sec … if everyone has one are they …. dare we say it … mainstream?! read more »

american apparel

Take a second to imagine a Telegraph Avenue – a world, in fact – minus American Apparel. Without the one-stop-shop for bow ties, leggings and assless tights, where on Earth would you go to outfit yourself for a ridiculous theme-party (Berkeley at large sometimes feels like one) while remaining sexy and with-it?

Buried somewhere within that rhetorical question, perhaps, lies the answer to why American Apparel is in grave financial jeopardy. read more »
