“We’ve already said” what we think DeVon Hardin should do concerning this year’s NBA Draft.
If he’s not going to go in the first round, he better stay at Cal. Hardin should stay in school, refine his skills and maybe add some skills offensively next year, and we assure you that he’ll be a first rounder next year.
He’s great defensively, but with the ball on offense, well, let’s just not think about Hardin with the ball just yet.
Beyond the Arc—a college basketball blog on MSNBC.com— “agrees with us” and ranked Hardin as the No. 7 center in this year’s draft. At least he made the top 10.
bq. No. 7: DeVon Hardin
A stress fracture in his right foot ended Hardin’s season in December, which is one of the reasons he’s below (Aaron) Gray. When healthy, he’s a good rebounder and shot blocker and scores off dunks and hustle plays. (Read: bad offensively.) I’m hoping he returns to school to work on his game.
We’re hoping too. As for the question of getting drafted this year, draftexpress.com, another blog devoted to the NBA, “doesn’t even have Hardin on their board” … anywhere. Not even in the second round.
Well, Hardin’s got a month before he has to withdraw his name. The deadline is 10 days before the NBA Draft, which will be held on June 28 this year. Let’s all hope he makes the right choice.

It looks like “The Bench,” the name of the not-too-loud, but still kind of boisterous Cal student section at men’s basketball games, will be no more starting next year. The university is looking to re-brand all student sections with one name for next year and they want you, the students, to help them.
We’ve always thought that “The Bench” was one of the lamest student section names in the entire country. Take a look at Oregon’s student section, they’re called “Da Pit.” That’s awesome. Even fUCLA’s student section, “The Den,” sounds kind of cool.
And what’s the student section called at football games? The student section. Yeah, very original.
Our favorite from the list has got to be “The Bears’ Lair.”
We’ve also got to say whichever guy in the athletic department pitched “Bear Force” has got to be fired. That’s lamer than “The Bench.”

It looks like all this sucking by Ben Braun’s Bears has taken its toll on Omar Wilkes. The former Kansas player, who transferred to Cal for god knows why, is forgoing his senior season.
And we can’t blame him. For the three years he was here, the Bears made one NCAA Tournament appearance.
Compare that to the Elite Eight run that the Jayhawks made in the Tournament this year, where Wilkes would have been a senior.
Plus, Wilkes would have been lost in all the hoopla of Ryan Anderson’s sophomore campaign. And was Wilkes really going to get the ball with the possibility of trigger-happy Jerome Randle running the show?
And if we were Omar, we’d be crying that our best win of the year was pretty much meaningless. Of course we’re talking about the Bears’ upset over fUCLA in the Pac-10 tournament.
We’d also be kind of upset that we would have to play in the shadow of a guy like Ayinde “0″baka. Wilkes didn’t do anything to shame himself on the court like that guy.
So, we bid you adieu Omar Wilkes. You never got the ball enough. You had a pretty good shot, and we’ll say that if you were on the court against the Small Dickless Bears in the Elite Eight this year, Kansas would have been in the Final Four.
