Thanks to your diligent voting, we won! This Friday Dec. 4 at 7  p.m., there will be free screening of “Youth in Revolt” in Wheeler  Auditorium. More importantly, there will be free Michael Cera (and Portia Doubleday) in the flesh.

Best set up your banana stand in front of Wheeler Hall early … we’ve been warned: ”Admissions for the film screening are not guaranteed.  Students will line up at theater, first come first served.” Alright, alright. We get it. We’ll be there by 6:30.

This advance screening is for UC Berkeley students only, so make sure you bring your student I.D. But don’t bring your cell phone. Those aren’t allowed.

There’s a 21 + after party across the bay from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Westin St. Francis Grand Ball Room, 335 Powell St. (Union Square), San Francisco.

Note: So as not to conflict with this event, the formerly mentioned SUPERB! screening of “Inglorious Bastards” has been re-scheduled for Wed. Dec. 2 at 7 and 9:30 p.m.

ASUC SUPERB Presents a FREE Advance Screening of “Youth in Revolt” [SUPERB!]

We’re currently in the lead of a little (non-meathead) neighborly competition to get Michael Cera and Portia Doubleday to come watch a free screening of their new movie “Youth in Revolt” with us on our campus. Seems fitting, seeing as Berkeley is mentioned by name in the theatrical trailer. Well, in the context of Michael Cera burning it down in the name of hapless, unrequited hipsterlust.

Regardless, we’ve seen Michael Cera through some pretty endearing awkward stages, and even though he got a lil’ too indie for L.A. and hightailed it to Portland, we  still want to show our puppy love by winning this thing big. Your last chance to participate is Nov. 29, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. PST, so get those votes in! C’mon, we can’t be the only ones who want to get a sneak preview of George Michael as a mustachioed cocksman with a penchant for the arson of UC Berkeley!!

.!.

Sunday Shout-Out picks out the week’s stories that simply slipped our minds.

This picture has nothing to do with food, but if you do a quick glance and close one eye, the police tape looks like Cyrillic. We don’t really know where we’re going with this besides “Ooh, looky a neat-o shot.”

* We’re going to pour out some of our ginger kombucha for our homeys over at Elephant Pharm. RIP. [SF Chron]

* We also miss Guide to the Good Life. Where are our $1-off-a-$5-or-more-purchase-at-FSM coupons?! [Daily Cal]

* The fashionistas go ga-ga for Chanel Cupcakes. We don’t see the appeal in buttercream lipsticks. [BARE]

* Our cohorts on the Arts blog falls for Michael Cera’s trickery. But such adorable trickery. [AITWFB]

Continuing on with what seems to be the new “thing,” CalTV features another interview on its site, this time with the stars of “Superbad.”

You’re already well aware how we received the previous interviews. To say the least, we weren’t impressed. Did CalTV change our minds this time?

Hmm … no. Don’t take this the wrong way, but we preferred the Daily Cal’s interview over this one. Despite being in print, the DC interview manages to capture character and humor much more than the camera does for CalTV.

So Tim Jaconnette is an improvement, but the talent still isn’t where it should be. Jaconnette moves around too much, and the camera struggles to keep him in frame without panning at the speed of light. Good energy, but might we suggest maybe one less espresso?

The guys of “Superbad”–Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Michael Cera–are dull and rather boring at the beginning. They seem tired, answering the usual questions about the movie. On a technical note, the lavalier mike for Cera sounds boxy and too far away to capture his voice just right.

It picks up, and the piece ends on a higher note once Jaconnette asks the guys about themselves and how they all get along. The guys are comfortable talking about their friendships.

Had CalTV had more time with the guys to warm them up and had CalTV cut out the first questions, the interview would have been more engaging. Alas, it was not.

We’d like to rectify this problem. You know, CalTV, we had four years experience of video production and two years experience in TV journalism in high school. Care to swap talent? Let’s make a date, and then we’ll hug it out at the end.
