Editor’s Note: Due to ridiculously high traffic all day Friday, the Clog was sporadically down for much of the day. Thus we resorted to Twitter for all of our occupation coverage. The above slideshow is a culmination of all the pictures we posted on Twitter taken by various Daily Cal employees. What follows are the highlights from our Twitter coverage. You can expect a more comprehensive post later.

*BREAKING: Students take over Wheeler Hall. http://tr.im/FnuQ http://tr.im/Fnv8

*One (of) the organizers gave out Vice Chancellor Breslauer’s number and told people to call and ask for amnesty for Wheeler Hall occupiers

*According to one of the organizers, Breslauer has agreed to begin negotiations with them.

*Outside Wheeler, they’re chanting “it’s raining, it’s cold, but UC Berkeley won’t be sold.”

*People are collecting $5 donations from the crowd to pay the bails for protestors arrested this morning #ucstrike

* dailycal Raw footage of the protest from a Daily Cal source: http://bit.ly/5JAQSk #ucstrike

*Still in front of Wheeler. Not too much happening, but a band has appeared. #Ucstrike

*Protester on west side of Wheeler: “You’re sexy, you’re cute, take off that riot suit!”

*Organizers handing out food to the crowd. Like grilled cheese sandwiches. No kidding.

*Ananya Roy and others just entered Wheeler accompanied by police #ucstrike

*Professor George Lakoff announces students will be escorted out of Wheeler and released. #ucstrike

*Occupiers will be cited with misdemeanors #ucstrike

*Prof george lakoff: “their reps will meet with the chancellor, and the vice chancellor is in there now.” #ucstrike

*Dean of Students Jonathan Poullard just entered Wheeler. Wish we knew what was going on in there. #ucstrike

*Police crossing barricade and human chain. People yelling about tear gas #ucstrike

*Everybody is sitting down. Organizers say the goal is to “block and not act with violence.” #ucbprotest #ucstrike

*Daily Clog correspondent Jessie Tseng: “This is out of control.” #ucstrike #ucbprotest

*It’s raining. Also, they’ve set up a large spotlight in front of Wheeler pointing out at the crowd. #ucstrike

* dailycal UCB spokesperson Dan Mogulof confirms 41 people arrested.
*Aakash Desai: “I was … on our property and I’m being charged with burglary?
*ASUC President Will Smelko is inside of Wheeler, waiting for people to get out. Many people are cheering. #ucbprotest #ucstrike

*People singing “Na na hey hey kiss him goodbye” by The Steam.
We enjoyed the red velvet and double vanilla cupcakes from the Cupkates Truck during awkward gaps between classes. The brilliance of the idea was not lost on us. While Berkeley is never at a loss for brilliant baked goods, cupcakes included, these ones came to us. The truck often parked near campus, and were we so gluttonous as to desire two dozen cupcakes or more, we could have them delivered for free. But today, we were thwarted. While checking the truck’s twitter last night, we found this ominous message:

We will not be operating tomorrow according to our normal schedule. The city of Berkeley is trying to suspend our permit. We will be in meetings all day, and back to our office route Wednesday.

City of Berkeley, how could you do this to us? And during this mediocre season of midterms, rain and huge fee increases no less? We needed those cupcakes. They were our only hope.

Now, the Cupkates Truck is far from the only mobile food outfit to be found on the outskirts of campus. There is the taco truck, the hot dogs, the place that sells chocolate-covered strawberries and we’ve even occasionally glimpsed a competing cupcake business.

But alas, for now we’ll need to find somewhere else to fill our cupcake needs. Although Love at First Bite in the Gourmet Ghetto has never disappointed us, it is a bit of a trek, which takes up time we should be spending studying … or something.

We just wanted our double vanilla cupcake, City of Berkeley. Why’d you have to ruin it?

We wouldn’t say no to a marzipan Totoro either.

If you’re pithy and in need of money, then boy do we have a humdinger of a scholarship for you!

Twitter is back, and it’s not just for celebrities anymore. It helped in Iran, and it can help fill your pockets. So what is this (apologies in advance for the unavoidable pun) “Tweet” deal?

Well, Twitter is giving out $14,014.00 in scholarships (presumably in an adorable homage to their own 140 character limit). First prize is $10000 big ones. What you have to do is quite simple: “In 140 characters or less, write a Tweet highlighting how we can use Twitter to improve the world.”

In layman’s terms, you have to boil a complex topic (making the world better) down to about thirty words. But come on, this stuff is mother’s milk for the average Tweeter.

So what are you waiting for, Berkeley Tweeters? Go out and win it! Get epigrammatic on their asses! Show the whole damn world just how concise, succinct, and laconic Bears can be!

We know you can do it. We have complete faith in your Tweets. As proof, we offer our own attempt at brevity:

Go Bears.

We all know how it goes: If you live in Berkeley, and you’re not politically involved, people will most likely think you’re a tool. Which is not to say that the parameters of “politically involved” are particularly stringent. All you really need is a sign and a red ribbon and hey, look at that! You’re an activist.

So naturally it would follow that the best means of demonstrating your commitment to environmental ethics is to befriend a gorilla. No, we don’t mean getting down and dirty Jane Goodall-style. These are modern times, kiddlins–all you need is the Internet.

Didn’t know Ugandan mountain gorillas are a critically endangered species? Well, consider yourself informed; and just how are you going to alleviate that cumbersome burden from your world-weary shoulders? Why, by following those gorillas on Twitter, of course! Lord knows, with only 720 left alive, they need all the social networking they can get.

Go on, then: fill up your friend cart with a silverback or two, and sleep easy knowing that, for now, you’ve made the world a better place. With any luck, there’s a “Friend a Child Soldier” project in the making. Hey, displaced people deserve Facebook friends, too.

UPDATE: Now with three YouTubes! See below the jump.

The UC Board of Regents are meeting today, and as part of a time-honored tradition†, Mark Yudof gives us live updates of all the exciting regentmental action going down at the UCSF campus.

Some highlights straight from his Twitter page:

*Reed: I’ve been in government for 40 years; never seen a budget cut like this. “It’s the mother of all reductions.” CA shouldn’t be #1 here.
*getting ready for public comment at the Board of Regents meeting @ UCSF. Huge crowd. No one’s happy about fee increases; that includes me.

*Lots of shouting. Be nice if everyone shouting respected the free speech rights of the rest of us. We’ll take a break until we can resume.
Regent Blum: it’s “demonstrably silly” that Board and I are blamed for what’s happening. We’ll offer a free bus ticket to Sacramento.
*telling Board If anyone has better plan than mine, I’m for it. But no one can compromise access to and quality of UC. Thanks for standing O

So the Clog’s learned a couple of things: 1) You can prove something is silly. 2) Regents like to talk, too.

So, let us get this straight. We know that no one else gives a flying f*ck what we drank last night and we still post it up all over the place for all the world to see?

Yeah, we guess that sounds about right, even if the poll doesn’t exactly reek of scientific significance. But does our self-awareness justify our obnoxious attention whoreishness? We say nay. Hey that rhymes! Ohmigod, we’re so clever. We totes have to go tweet this right now.
